Thank you for your interest in the Autonomic Dysfunction Center at Vanderbilt University.
The autonomic nervous system regulates the 'automatic' functions of the body such as blood pressure, heart rate, stomach and intestinal function, and bladder function. Disorders of the autonomic nervous system, therefore show up as disorders in these and other 'automatic' bodily functions. Our area of expertise is in diseases affecting the regulation of blood pressure and heart rate.
There are many disorders of the autonomic nervous system which can occur in patients of various ages. At the Autonomic Dysfunction Center, we have several projects ongoing to study causes, clinical manifestations, and treatments for many of these disorders. Except in special circumstances, all study participants must be adults (18 years of age or older) and have signs and symptoms of autonomic impairment.
