When Workplace Violence Involves Patients or Family Members

Healthcare providers can experience workplace hostility and potentially violent situations from patients under their care. However, sometimes intense responses are generated by family members and can also lead to threatening situations for our providers. The goal of this session is to understand the emotional, physical, and safety challenges related to family conversations. Also, this discussion will cover safety protocols, staff training, security practices, and future considerations for managing tense family dynamics at VUMC.
