Our experience suggests that a broad range of problems make certain health care professionals appropriate candidates for our courses.
In the past twenty years, approximately 2600 healthcare professionals have attended the CME courses at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Course evaluations and the clinical experience of the faculty suggest that the courses are effective and well received by the participants. Data on participants who have attended our courses indicate that they tend to come from solo practices or small group family practices in either very small or very large communities. Participants are often angry and confused at the beginning of the course but most become more open and self-reflective as the course unfolds. Some participants have noted that the courses have a "tough love" quality about them.
