For those attending the Prescribing Controlled Drugs Course, typical problem behaviors have included the inappropriate dispensing of medications from physician’s offices, prescribing large amounts of narcotics at too frequent intervals, or prescribing to family members, friends, or people with known histories of substance abuse. Oftentimes, the records of the physicians’ prescribing practices are poorly documented or non-existent. This is not a course designed for physicians who have an active drug dependence problem themselves. However, some participants may be in recovery and many have had family histories of alcohol and other drug dependence. Neither is the course appropriate for physicians accused of illegally selling drugs for profit.
