The Global Surgery Program at Vanderbilt is a multidisciplinary initiative to create a collaborative exchange of ideas focused on harmonizing program elements already underway at Vanderbilt. Those elements include dissemination of in-country education and training opportunities for faculty and students, development of outcomes and evaluation research, and establishment of a central portal for communication to increase national and international visibility of Vanderbilt as a leader in Global Surgery.
PRIME Workshop 2019
The 2019 Preparing Residents for International Medical Experiences (PRIME) Workshop is happening on Saturday, September 21 at the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment (CELA). This workshop is led by faculty from multiple disciplines geared to surgery, anesthesia and OB residents participating in overseas electives, and uses simulation and guided discussion to cover relevant ethical, clinical, social and safety considerations for international work.

On November 17, surgery and anesthesia residents embarking on electives at Kijabe Hospital in Kenya participated in the first Preparing Residents for International Medical Experiences (PRIME) Workshop incorporating simulation and discussion led by Vanderbilt faculty.
