Andrew Schaale, PA-C

Andrew SchaaleI graduated from the PA program at Trevecca Nazarene University in 2013 and started working with a neurologist in Hendersonville, providing care in a pediatric and adult neurology clinic and the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Sumner Regional Medical Center. I continued with this career path for about 4 years and was able to get a good foundation in neurology and rehab care. In July of 2017, I was hired to work with the Vanderbilt stroke service and I've greatly enjoyed my role since.

Currently, I assist the stroke team by managing patient care along with the neuro residents. Our patients can easily range from TIAs to devastating hemorrhages and ischemic strokes that require multi-disciplinary care in the ICU setting. Given this spectrum, I've been able to learn a lot more about neurology and many other aspects of medicine and my ability to practice as a PA has been greatly enhanced. Now that I've had some experience here with the stroke team, I'm starting to learn how to participate in stroke alerts. This is often the most exciting part of our work, as we have to quickly decide whether someone will need acute intervention and often get to see the incredible benefit of such treatment. I've thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of the various neurology attendings, fellows, and residents during my time here and greatly appreciate how helpful they've been and how they've accepted me onto their team during this transition process. I also enjoy getting to work with and help teach the medical students that rotate with our team.

Andrew SchaaleOutside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, who is also a PA currently working in Primary Care. We are currently expecting our first child due February 9, 2018 and are excited to find out if it's a boy or girl, since we decided to wait to find out the baby's gender. We enjoy taking our yellow lab for walks to the local dog park and many Nashville green ways. We love to travel and our favorite places so far have been Italy and Hawaii. I'm a big sports fan and enjoy football and soccer most. I'm really excited for Nashville's new MLS team and hope that the Tennessee Vols can figure out how to win again.
