Training & Promotional Opportunities

A guided self-study training program is provided for those technicians without national certification. The training program focuses primarily on sterile product preparation which is a major portion of the technician function. At the same time, on-the-job training is provided for the first few months of employment. In addition, the VUMC Pharmacy Department provides many opportunities for technicians planning to be with the department long term. There are approximately 34 promotional level positions above the entry level of Pharmacy Technician I. These promotional levels are selected by application as positions become available either  through attrition or as new positions are approved. To be selected, technicians must have the required years of experience, a good record of attendance and punctuality, a high level of performance, and PTCB certification.
