Ahilan Sivaganesan, MD

AHILAN SIVAGANESAN, MD, (2013), was born in Dallas and raised in Cincinnati. He doubled majored in statistics and policy studies at Rice University and graduated magna cum laude as a Rice-Baylor Medical Scholar. In 2013, he received his medical degree with Honor from Baylor College of Medicine. There, he served a term as the Executive Director of the HOMES Clinic - Houston's only student-run clinic for the homeless. As a medical student he also completed a research fellowship at UCSF, where he laid the foundation for a decision support system designed to detect cerebral vasospasm and autoregulation failure using bedside waveform data in neurosurgical ICUs. Dr. Sivaganesan aims to conduct research at the intersection of 'big data' and clinical neurosurgery, which he believes has the potential to transform quality and outcomes. Specific interests include vascular neurosurgery, with a focus on stroke, and traumatic brain injury.

Outside of the hospital, Ahilan is an avid runner and a skilled classical pianist. He loves to walk through downtowns admiring the architecture, and he enjoys delving into the poetry of his mother tongue - Tamil. As part of his passion for global health, Ahilan is the founder of 'Ideas to Impact' (i2i), an initiative which empowers teams of young professionals to design and implement humanitarian projects in war-torn regions of Sri Lanka.
