Sports Residency Program

Program Overview

The Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program at Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institue and Belmont University is designed to enhance the clinician's professional skills both in the clinic and on the field.

Mission:

The mission of the Sports Clinical Residency at Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institute & Belmont University is to prepare the physical therapy resident to be an advanced practitioner in sports physical therapy by working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. The resident will demonstrate excellence through evidence based clinical decision making and practice, serve as an educator, clinical researcher and professional role model for others.

Sports Residency Program consists of:

  • 18 Month Program
  • Direct Clinical Care of 30 hours per week at Vanderbilt Orthoaedic Institute
  • Teaching Assistant at Belmont University's PT School Orthopaedics Lab
  • Grand rounds with physicians
  • Journal club with orthopaedic and sports related topics
  • On the field experience covering Division I athletics at Vanderbilt University
  • Opportunity for surgery observation
  • One-on-one clinical mentoring
  • Opportunity to participate in a research project
