I’m Lori Graves, BSN, RN, CNOR. I am the manager of the Pediatric Operating Rooms located in Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
To care for our patient population, nurses in the Pediatric Operating Rooms ensure each child undergoing surgery receives the same excellent standard of care as recommended by the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN) regardless of the complexity of the surgical procedure.

Our unit specializes in surgical care in all specialty areas including otolaryngology, urology, general surgery, opthalmology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, plastics, renal and liver transplant, robotic surgery and burn care. Our main focus is ensuring that every child gets the best possible care during surgery.
Our OR nurses work with a multidisciplinary team that includes surgeons, anesthesia providers, and a multitude of other pediatric specialists. Everyday our nurses have an opportunity to be a part of team that offers children a better quality of life, and sometimes lifesaving surgery, that offer hope to these children and their families.
Our Nurse Residents complete a 6 month orientation period, during this orientation period the nurse will complete the AORN Periop 101 program. AORN Periop 101 is an evidence based curriculum that was developed by expert perioperative nurses and is led by the perioperative nurse educator and the preceptors.
