Ebony was able to work immediately after graduating as an LPN by participating in VUMC’s LPN Transition to Practice Program.  She is already working on the next phase of her nursing career.

What has been your career path? Where are you now on your path?
My career path has always been centered around pediatric nursing and my career goal is to ultimately transition to an RN role after earning a BSN.  I am now in the process of taking pre-requisite courses to transition to becoming an RN.

EbonyHow did the VUMC LPN Transition to Practice program support your transition to practice? What has the experience meant to you?
The VUMC LPN Transition to Practice Program supported my transition tremendously by allowing me to begin work immediately as a pediatric nurse right after graduation.  That experience was very special to me because no other program offered this to brand new LPN graduates. This work experience and opportunity has shaped me in to the confident and skilled nurse that I am today.

EbonyDid you consider other programs? Why did you choose Vanderbilt?
I did not consider other programs when I found out that Vanderbilt was an option.  I chose Vanderbilt because I've worked for this amazing institution for 9+ years in the areas of adult cardiology, adult nephrology research, and pediatric wellness research.  I wanted to remain with one of the best Children's Hospitals in the US!

What is it about being a Vanderbilt nurse that makes you proud?
I am extremely proud to be a Vanderbilt nurse because of the nursing advancement opportunities, the hands on training, and the prestigious Magnet designation.Ebony
